COMPLETE ITINERARY FOR THE WALKING TOUR OF GRANADA
The tour begins at Plaza Bib-Rambla, near the Fuente de los Gigantes fountain, where the guide will give an overview of Granada’s history and outline the focus of the tour, which is designed to help you get your bearings in the city before exploring on your own.
From there, you’ll reach Plaza de las Pasiegas, where we’ll explore the exterior of Granada Cathedral, including interesting facts such as why it was built on that site and why it has only one tower. A short walk away, we’ll visit the Church of El Sagrario, which is connected to the Cathedral, to learn about the location of the city’s former mosque and the unique tradition of perpetual prayer in its chapel.
The tour continues through the Alcaicería, the old souk, exploring its history from its founding in the 14th century—linked to the silk trade—to the fire that destroyed it in the 19th century. Near the Royal Chapel, also viewed from the outside, the tour explains the role of the Catholic Monarchs and the context of burials and family history, before stopping at the Madraza, with its trompe-l’œil façade and the reference to the oratory preserved as a former Islamic school.
The second part begins in the lower part of the Albaicín, with an introduction to the neighborhood and its historic defensive system, passing by the Church of San Gregorio Bético. The tour continues to the birthplace of Enrique Morente, linking his legacy to the evolution of flamenco in Granada, and ends at the Placeta de Carvajales, one of the neighborhood’s small viewpoints, with the Alhambra directly across the way and a few minutes for photos while the guide points out other viewpoints.
The free tour ends at Plaza de Santa Ana, next to the Pilar del Toro fountain, with a final explanation about the Darro River and the conclusion of the tour.
The order may vary on specific days if there are events in the city or if several groups coincide, doing the Albaicín section first and then the city center.
