Science Park, Granada

The BioDome, opened in 2016, explores terrestrial biodiversity through underwater and land-based spaces featuring more than 200 species of animals and plants from around the world. This space recreates ecosystems from all five continents, letting visitors discover everything from tropical species to Indo-Pacific wildlife.

In the Biosphere Room you can follow the movement of piranhas, watch a real-time world population counter or explore human DNA. The route also takes in Madagascar, the Amazon and other ecosystems that highlight the conservation of the world's biodiversity.

The Planetarium offers a 360-degree journey through the universe, where you can observe more than 7,000 stars recreated using high-tech projection. Sessions are recommended for ages 10 and up and require booking in advance.

The Astronomical Observatory has a professional 75 cm telescope that allows for real observations of space. Outside, the Astronomy Garden displays instruments used for astronomical observation throughout the centuries.

The Eureka Room is devoted to physics and mechanics, with hands-on experiments on gravity, the Earth's motion and other physical phenomena you can manipulate directly.

The Perception Room lets you play with sound and light, "fly" thanks to your reflection in a mirror, or touch fibre optics to understand how our senses work.

The Explora Room is designed exclusively for children aged 3 to 7, where they can "think and discover" through more than 20 activities that let them interact with different materials and objects that stimulate their natural curiosity.

The Tropical Butterfly House is home to more than 300 specimens from twenty butterfly species from around the world, set among tropical plants, creating an environment that's especially captivating for younger visitors.

Free admission: 28 February (Andalusia Day) and the first Saturday after 8 May (Museum Anniversary). No discounts are available for people with disabilities.

Two car parks are available; the larger one is on Avenida de la Ciencia (underground). Parking can be pricey for a full-day visit.

A full visit takes 4 hours without the Planetarium, or 5 hours including all the activities. It's a good idea to check the schedule of free workshops in advance to reserve a spot and plan the rest of your visit accordingly.

During summer, the museum runs a science school Monday to Friday (9:30 am-2:30 pm), operating as a science camp for children aged 5 to 12.

A wide range of free workshops and activities run throughout the day across the museum's different areas. The 50-metre Observation Tower offers spectacular views of Granada, the Sierra Nevada and the Alhambra.

The museum has a café, a science-themed gift shop and rest areas throughout the complex for families with young children.
