The Albaicín and the Sacromonte hold an essential part of historic Granada outside the monumental centre. On this guided visit you'll walk cobbled streets, medieval cisterns, Mudéjar churches, viewpoints and cave-house areas with direct views over the Alhambra.
The route starts at Plaza de Santa Ana and moves along the Carrera del Darro before climbing into the Albaicín, a neighbourhood declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. Along the way you'll pass places like the Bañuelo, the Convento de Zafra, the Church of San Juan de los Reyes, the Aljibe del Trillo cistern and the San Nicolás viewpoint.
The visit then continues into the Sacromonte, the former Valparaíso hill. This part of the route covers the caves dug into the rock, life in the neighbourhood, and the origins of the zambra flamenca, linked to the flamenco venues and Granada's Roma tradition.
The visit lasts around 2 hours, runs with an official guide in Spanish or English, and ends at the Paseo de los Tristes, at the foot of the Alhambra.
The visit starts at Plaza de Santa Ana, next to the Church of San Gil y Santa Ana. From here you get an introduction to the city's history before heading down to the Carrera del Darro, one of the historic walkways linking the centre with the climb up to the Albaicín.
The first stretch runs alongside the Darro river, between 16th-century mansions and remains of medieval Granada. Along the way there are stops at the Puente de los Tableros, the Bañuelo and the Maristán, spaces that open up conversations about the Muslim city, its public baths, and one of the earliest documented hospitals in Granada.
The climb into the Albaicín passes the Convento de Zafra and the house of Hernando de Zafra, secretary to the Catholic Monarchs. Further on comes the Church of San Juan de los Reyes, built over a former mosque and linked to one of the city's surviving minarets.
The route continues past the Aljibe del Trillo, part of the Nasrid water system, and the area of the Casa de Aben Humeya, where the guide explains the Alpujarras War and the expulsion of Muslims and Moriscos. From there you reach the San Nicolás viewpoint, with views over the Alhambra, the Generalife and the Sierra Nevada.
The route continues toward the Church of El Salvador and then takes the Vereda de Enmedio, the natural link between the Albaicín and the Sacromonte. Here the landscape changes: the first cave houses appear, along with open hillsides and viewpoints over the Alhambra.
Once in the Sacromonte, the guide explains how the caves were dug into the rock and how the neighbourhood took shape on the former Valparaíso hill. The route passes the Fuente de la Amapola, the Mario Maya viewpoint and areas linked to the flamenco venues where the origins of the zambra flamenca are explained.
The way down passes caves and traditional spots in the neighbourhood until reaching the Chorrojumo statue, a Granada figure linked to the first tourist visits to the Alhambra in the 19th century. The tour ends at the Paseo de los Tristes, beneath the slopes of the Alhambra.
Before booking, keep in mind this is a walking route through neighbourhoods with slopes, steps and cobbled paving. The route runs outdoors and doesn't include entry to any buildings.

This route is not accessible for wheelchairs or baby strollers. It includes climbs, steps and cobbled stretches. On rainy days, the Albaicín's paving can be slippery. Comfortable, non-slip footwear is recommended.

This visit is suitable for families with children. If you're bringing a baby, a baby carrier is recommended, as the route can't be done with a stroller. Pets are allowed on the visit.

The tour runs as normal even if the weather changes. It's only cancelled if there's a serious storm or conditions that could pose a risk on the slopes, steps and cobbled stretches of the Albaicín and the Sacromonte. In that case, we contact customers in advance to arrange the cancellation or find an alternative.
