The first stretch enters the Alcaicería, a former souk linked to the silk trade since the 14th century. Today's area keeps the memory of that space, though its look changed after the 19th-century fire caused by a match factory.
Next comes the Corral del Carbón, one of the route's main stops. It was a merchants' inn, warehouse and lodging house, later a convent, and once nearly became a summer cinema under a municipal decision. It's seen from the outside and, if it's open, you can also go inside.
The route continues toward Plaza Isabel la Católica, where you'll hear about the former Jewish quarter, its transition into the Christian world, and what the 1492 expulsion meant. The monument to Isabella and Columbus also marks the fourth centenary of the discovery of America.
The next stop is Plaza Nueva, with the Royal Chancery as its central building. From this area the pace of the walk shifts, as the climb toward the Albaicín begins.
On the way up comes the Calle del Beso, tied to the legend of a young woman brought back to life by her mother's true-love kiss. It's one of the narrowest, most cobbled stretches of the route.
Halfway up, there's a pause at the Placeta de Carvajales, a quieter viewpoint with the Alhambra facing it. This spot is used to rest for a few minutes, take photos and point out other viewpoints in the neighbourhood.
The finale comes at the San Nicolás viewpoint, with the illuminated Alhambra facing the Albaicín. Here the guide recalls the former Alcazaba Cadima, the city's first Muslim defensive system, before closing the visit with a group photo.
